Dr. Sammer Ul Hassan is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) (starting from July 2021). He received his BSc Analytical Chemistry from The University of Hull, UK (2012) and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK (2016). He then continued his research as a Research Fellow at University of Southampton followed by a Principal Scientist and Director of Analytical Chemistry Research at SouthWestSensors Ltd. UK. He then started a Research Fellowship position at University of Southampton in a consortium of UK and India antimicrobial resistance one health project.

He is developing a research group in synergy with the Microfluidics and Soft matter group lead by Professor Anderson Shum in the Department of Mechanical engineering at HKU. Dr. Hassan’s research interests are in the fields of microfluidics, microsystems and point-of-care diagnostics. His aims are developing robust, simple-to-operate, inexpensive and portable systems for point-of-need applications. He is actively looking for collaborations with researchers interested in translation of their technologies into biomedical/environmental or research-based tools. He is also taking part in the research initiatives of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP).

He is also looking for bright individuals to join his research group as Research Assistants, Student Research assistants, Visitors, FYP BME and integrated capstone students, Masters, MPhil/PhDs and post-docs. Interested people can contact at suhassan@hku.hk.
