The laboratory consists of a full anechoic chamber and a general testing area outside the chamber. The chamber simulates infinite space in which at least 99% of sound energy arriving at the wall is absorbed by the wedges made of porous materials. Typical experiments conducted in the chamber are related to the study of sound source mechanisms, such as fan noise. Sound reflecting floors are also provided to conduct semi-anechoic tests when needed. The general testing area is mainly used for acoustic impedance tube and flow-through duct acoustics. The lab is equipped with the latest acoustic and vibration measurement instruments such as the impedance tube, laser vibrometer, accelerometer, basic flow measurement instruments, data acquisition and analysis tools, finite element software packages, and computational fluid mechanics software.
