Large-area, multifunctional and conformal epidermal electronics for continuous health monitoring and gesture recognition

Skin-like epidermal electronics are gradually becoming important in clinical health care, human-machine interaction, virtual reality, etc. Numerous multifunctional on-skin devices have been researched to measure electrophysiological signals or biomarkers. Nevertheless, current progresses cannot satisfy the large-area and comprehensive physiological signal measurement due to multifunctional epidermal electronics with small-area or large-area electronics with single-function. Here, we introduce a strategy to fabricate large-area, multifunctional and skin-liked epidermal electronics with outstanding breathability and ultralow module. Photolithography is applied to manufacture multifunctional devices including electrophysiological electrode and temperature sensor. Meanwhile, breathable, ultralow module and porous SEBS nanofiber substrate is also realized with the basis of electrospinning and kirigami techniques. As a proof-of-concept, we demonstrate the devices enable coverage the full forearm to detect the EMG signals with different gestures and recorder the ECG signals and skin temperature with high density. Our result approves it is possible for large-area and multifunctional epidermal electronics to realize long-term health monitoring.
