The reversible conversion between heat and electricity makes thermoelectric technology one of the solutions to the energy crisis, as it provides a method to utilize waste heat to generate electricity. The performance of thermoelectric materials is evaluated by the thermoelectric figure of merit (zT), which is determined by the Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. The intrinsically low thermal conductivity makes AgBiSe2 a potential thermoelectric material. However, the intrinsic low carrier concentration limits the figure of merit of pristine AgBiSe2. By introducing selenium vacancies and aliovalent cation doping, the thermoelectric performance of n-type AgBiSe2 can be significantly increased.
