Shan He wins Excellent Oral Presentation Award at Chinese Biometerials Congress & Intl. Symposium

Miss Shan HE, who was a third-year PhD student in the HKU-SUSTech Joint PhD Programme and has been supervised by Prof. Min Wang of HKU's Department of Mechanical Engineering and Prof. Fuzhen Ren of SUSTech's Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has won the Excellent Oral Presentation Award at the 2019 Chinese Biomaterials Congress & International Symposium on Advanced Biomaterials which was held on August 22-25, 2019, in Dalian, Liaoning, China. This national congress & international symposium was organized by the Chinese Society for Biomaterials (CSBM), and the Chinese Biomaterials Congress takes place every two years. This year's congress had more than 4,000 attendees and researchers from 7 countries, including more than 10 US or UK national academy members, joined the congress and international symposium.

Miss He's presentation in this conference is entitled "Developing non-viral gene-activated matrices (GAMs) for tissue regeneration using PLGA-based nanoparticles and alginate nanofibrous scaffolds", which is based on her PhD work conducted in HKU and SUSTech. The reported research investigated combining gene delivery with nanofibrous tissue engineering scaffolds, which forms gene-activated matrices (GAMs) for potentially regenerating human body tissues. Efficient and sustained gene delivery was achieved using the GAMs developed.
