Prof. Huang received his BEng and MSc in Mechanics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in 2002 and 2004, respectively, and his PhD in Materials Science in 2008 from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), The Netherlands. From 2008 to 2010, he worked as a research engineer at ArcelorMittal (the largest steel company in the world) in Maizieres-les-Metz, France. Prof. Huang joined University of Hong Kong in 2010 as an Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2016, full Professor in 2019 and Chair Professor in 2023.
Prof. Huang has made exceptional contributions to academic research, technology transfer, and engineering applications in materials science. He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Changjiang Scholar Chair Professor, and Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering. He has received prestigious honors including the Xplorer Prize, Croucher Senior Research Fellowship, and Hong Kong Engineering Science and Technology Award. Being the PI/PC, Prof. Huang secured funding from Theme-based Research Scheme Fund (UGC, HK), Collaborative Research Fund (UGC, HK), Research Impact Fund (UGC, HK), National Key R&D Program (國家重點研發計劃, mainland China), General Research Fund (UGC, HK), Innovation and Technology Fund (HK), National Natural Science Foundation of China (mainland China), and industries from Europe and China (e.g. ArcelorMittal France, General Motors, Ansteel, Baosteel etc). Prof. Huang has published 160+ SCI journal papers on international journals including Science, Science Advances, Materials Today, Acta Materialia, Scripta Materialia, JMPS and IJP etc.
