3-D PRINTING PLANT
To accommodate the increasing need for 3D printing capabilities by both students and researchers, our 3D printing facilities have been upgraded significantly, thanks to the support by the University Development Fund. The Department now features a variety of professional-grade 3D printers, based on different technologies including PolyJet, fused deposition modeling (FDM), stereo lithography (SLA), and selective laser sintering (SLS). The combination of these tools enables the printing of 3D parts that are made of hard and/or soft polymeric materials with different material properties which are to suit the needs of different engineering and design applications, while exposing today’s students to the latest advancements in manufacturing technology. Moreover, a cutting-edge metallic SLS 3D printer has been commissioned in its new home on the ground floor of the Haking Wong Building, and is ready to serve users in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, HKU and even the local community at large.
