    Welcome to BBSE3008 Course Website
    Level: 3
    Credit units: 6
    Duration: Whole year
    Prerequisite: None
    Calendar Entry: Innovation / Inter-disciplinary in building services design, design rationales, feasibility studies, scheme design, detail design of air conditioning, fire services, plumbing and drainage, electrical power supply and lighting, vertical transportation, building control and automation, sustainability and energy efficient, design coordination and integration.
    Assessment Methods: In-couse assessment (50%); Practical Work (50%)
    Course Website: http://www.hku.hk/bse/bbse3008/

    Course Objectives:

  • To present students with a structured building services engineering design process and/or innovative design process, and methods for strengthening their problem-solving abilities; and
  • To develop students’ knowledge and skills in building services design with a focus on innovative, sustainable and multi-disciplinary design solutions; and
  • To provide students with experience of adopting a systematic design and team-work approach to handle design problems relating to the building services discipline.
  • Course Outcomes:

    After completing this course, students are expected to:

  • conduct the design of building services systems from feasibility studies, through scheme design and detail design, to a final solution, and/or;
  • identify, formulate and solve a variety of engineering problems to evaluate the possibility and performance of an innovative, unconventional or sustainable design.
  • demonstrate teamwork, segregation of duties and effective communication among team members to complete the design effectively and efficiently.
  • Useful References:

    There is no required textbooks for this course. Additional references and materials on the course topics will be provided over the course. The following are some suggested reading materials.
